These are a few photos of my '72 280 SE 4.5. I am embarassed to say that I initially bought this car for parts for my '69 300 SEL 6.3- however, I found I don't have the stomach to destroy a running, driving car, so it looks like it has joined the family. It is rusty in the front and rear outer rockers and in several places where the trim attaches to the body. I am the third owner since new. It is the original white, with a sunroof, column shift automatic, and the 4.5 liter v8. I've done a bit of work to it recently and I am VERY surprised as to how fast it is. It's not a rubber burning monster like my 6.3, but I have to say the transmission in this is light years ahead, and I've seen 120 mph in it with no problems whatsoever. The original interior was blue leather, and destroyed, so I just redid the seats with a nice vinyl that is very close to the original color. The car needs quite a bit of work still- the air conditioning is inoperative, as is the ventilation fan motor, but it might just be a relay issue, I have not dug into it yet. I may actually take the rust out and paint this car someday, but for now I'm just amazed that "ol Rusty" runs and drives as well as it does! The sunroof sure is nice, I wish my 6.3 had one. Anyway, just found this group (couple of the M-100 guys pointed me over here) and I'll put some better pictures of the car up as soon as I take them.
