Cement industry steps

Cement industry steps
Cement is known as a very important material in our daily life, as it constitutes the main component of construction, as cement has been known since ancient times in the Roman Empire.

Thanks to the discovery of modern cement by Joseph Aspdin in 1824 AD, which was called Portland cement because of its shape, which is very similar to the stones of Portland Island. The production process takes place in four main stages.

Mixing raw materials
In the first steps of cement manufacturing, the raw materials that make up the cement are mixed, which are iron, silicon, aluminum and calcium, so that there are two types of mixing methods, namely: -

Wet mixing process
All the raw materials are ground together, then stored in special silos, to be added to water later and mixed well, then sent to the kiln to be dried and prepared for the final grinding process.

dry mixing process
It begins in the places where the ores are extracted, where they are partially crushed in small sizes of about 5 cm, then they are sent to the factory, which in turn grinds them well and mixes them in certain proportions with each other, then sends them to the furnace and prepares them for the next stage.

Burning of raw materials
The process of burning raw materials takes place inside the so-called rotary kiln, which consists of cylinders in a slightly inclined position with a diameter of up to 3 meters and a length of 120 meters. The raw materials are transported into the kiln so that the kiln temperature is at the top of 10,000°C

Which leads to the decomposition of the raw materials and the production of carbon dioxide. As for the temperature at the bottom, it is 17000 degrees Celsius, which makes all the raw materials interact with each other.

Numerous types of fuel are also used in the process of burning raw materials, such as natural gas, coal powder, fuel oil, etc., where the process of mixing fuel with air takes place inside the furnace and the gases move up, forming ash. Somewhat similar to some components of raw materials.

final milling process
What is produced after the burning process is called clinker, as it is cooled and then sent to factories to be prepared for final grinding so that a very small percentage of gypsum is added with it, then it is ground into powder to be ready for use. .

Storage and packaging process
It is the final stage of cement production, where the ready-to-use cement is stored inside the silos to be sent to the market in two ways, either by vehicles designated to transport the ready-to-use cement directly on site, or it is packed in the form of powder in 50 kg bags.
